Gloria Orwoba signals interest in Kisii woman rep seat

Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has signalled interest in the Kisii woman representative seat in 2027.
Speaking during the United Opposition’s tour of the Kisii region on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Orwoba, who was unceremoniously removed from her United Democratic Alliance (UDA)-nominated Senate position in 2025, revisited the circumstances that led to her ouster.
Who was accused of going against her party after she was spotted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport welcoming former interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Orwoba went on to attack the current Kisii woman representative, Doris Donya, saying the county needs a leader who fights for the community’s interests and works with the Abagusii people, not one who fights against them.

She further pleaded with residents to “wipe her tears” by voting for her for a seat she didn’t mention in 2027, arguing that she lost her Senate seat for standing with their son Matiang’i.
“Mimi ndio nilienda kumchukua kiongozi wetu Fred Matiang’i. Mliona mama mwingine akienda kumchukua? Tunahitaji woman rep ambaye anafanya kazi na Abagusii, not yule ambaye anapigana na Abagusii. Kwa sababu Ruto alininyang’anya hicho kiti kwa sababu nilienda kuchukua ndugu yetu, si mtanipanguza machozi?” she posed.
Interest in Bobasi seat
Her latest declaration appears to contradict her earlier statement that she would vie for the Bobasi parliamentary seat, a race she lost during the UDA nominations in 2022 before stepping aside to help popularise the party, after which she was later awarded a nomination slot.

She has vehemently declined to take back any nomination slot in the future, saying that she will, from now on, concentrate on elective politics.
“I don’t want to be nominated again. I appreciate this nomination. I appreciate my party leader, Amenijenga. He gave me a hand up. I remember him having a conversation with me, telling me, ‘Do not waste this opportunity. Work hard. Serve your people. Serve your party.’ And that is exactly what I have done,” she said while speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, May 16, 2025.
Orwoba has recently been rallying behind Matiang’i, accompanying him to various United Opposition rallies, including the recent event where he was coronated as the Abagusii elder and spokesman.
