Sabina Chege defends Parliament amid fuel price outcry

Written by on 20 April 2026

Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege has come to the defence of Parliament following growing public frustration over rising fuel prices, urging Kenyans not to judge legislators based on a single issue.

Speaking in an interview with a local TV station on Monday, April 20, 2026, amid mounting pressure over the high cost of living, Chege maintained that the government has implemented several measures aimed at easing the economic burden on citizens.

“There are several interventions that have been made by parliament to address the cost of living…. The main problem is that when there is such a bill that comes and is highlighted, that bill is used to judge the parliament and the work it’s doing,” Sabina said.

The MP states that Parliament has served various programmes geared towards cushioning citizens, such as agricultural programmes, social protection and development of infrastructure. She maintained that they might not reduce the price of fuel immediately, but they were part of a wider plan to enhance livelihoods and stabilise the economy.
