ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has promised to set aside a special fund to mitigate the economic hardships of women’s single-parent families if elected president.
Speaking on Sunday in Kawangware as he popularized his August 9 presidential bid, Odinga stated that his government was determined to ensure that children of such families do not face hardship.
“Wale wamama ambao hawana mabwana, single mother, awe ni mjane, alitalikiwa na bwana au alidanganywa na kijana, hatutaki wamama hao wahangaike au watoto wao,” stated the ODM leader.
“Watapata msaada kutoka kwa serikali.”
The presidential hopeful further reiterated that his Ksh.6,000 monthly stipend to the unemployed is feasible, dismissing his critics who have opposed the promise as implausible.
“Wanasema ati Baba anadanganya watu hakuna pesa, Baba hadanganyi. Raila Amolo Odinga amekuwa waziri mkuu wa Kenya kwa miaka sita, najua pahali hiyo pesa iko,” he said.
Odinga pledged to seal all corruption loopholes in the country in a bid to ensure all public funds are not embezzled but instead channel them towards his presidential plans.
“Najua mahali wezi wanachukua wanapenya na pesa zetu, tutaziba hiyo mianya yote, tutamenyana nao ana kwa ana,” said the ODM leader.
Odinga additionally rubbished the DP Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza alliance as an insignificant competition to his presidential ambitions.
He was flanked by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Public Service and Gender CAS Beatrice Elachi, Siaya Senator James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, among others.
