A number of police officers, raided official residence of Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi on Wednesday following suspicions that he was conducting an illegal political meeting.

A similar raid on the residence had happened on Tuesday where ten youths were arrested and later released on cash bail after interrogation. They were at least 13 officers in both civilian and uniform stormed the deputy governor’s residence claiming there was a political gathering taking place there but no one was found within the premises.

Deputy Governor Joash Maangi who later addressed the media said; “We did not have any illegal meeting, I’m alone here. I don’t want to point fingers, but everybody knows that I’m a friend to the deputy president and there are those who believe that anybody associated with the deputy president should not be allowed to hold any meeting.”

Kisii county Police Commander Francis Kooli warned politicians against conducting any political meeting without consent from relevant authorities; “My message to all leaders in this county is that we’re there to serve them, and for all meetings that are being held, let the police be aware.”
