He garnered 32 votes in the first round of voting, beating former Kipsonoi ward MCA Weldon Kirui, who came second with a measly 6 votes.

Others, who contested for the seat, were immediate speaker Nelson Mutai, Bomet UDA party coordinator Stephen Mutai, Ngeny Leonard, Bii Samoei, Sigei Leonard, Gilbert Rono, Dennis Sang and Bernard Langat.

The new speaker pledged to serve the assembly diligently without discrimination.

“I will work with all the members from across the political divide. I will ensure that your welfare is well taken care of,” he said in his acceptance speech.

The businessman-cum politician unsuccessfully contested for MP seat in Bomet County’s Konoin constituency in 2017.

He became an internet sensation in September 2018 after bagging Ksh208,733,619 on a Ksh100 bet.

With the financial breakthrough, he has been involved in several community projects in Bomet including assisting locals with medical facilities at the Longisa County Referral Hospital, and nurturing talents through football competitions among others.
