Caucus of Akamba council of elders has vowed to rally behind Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid.
The elders appealed to the Wiper leader to remain steadfast, bold, decisive, philanthropic and tough.
They promised to help Kalonzo cultivate an image of a sober-minded, conciliatory candidate from a community “acceptable in all regions of the country” .
They laid hands on the former vice president at a symbolic traditional ceremony at his Yatta farm home in Machakos County on Monday evening.
They asked the gods to pour their mercies on their son to win the presidency without obstacles.
The council’s chairman, Boniface Kilonzo, said Kalonzo, who was first elected to Parliament in 1985, had sacrificed enough since the 2007 election.
Therefore, he added, Kalonzo should be the compromise and most accepted Opposition presidential candidate to face President William Ruto in 2027.
“He sacrificed in 2007, in 2013 and in 2017. This time we are hoping, we are demanding and we are expecting everybody else to sacrifice for Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka,” Kilonzo said.
The chairman said their visit was primarily to tell Kalonzo that the council was fully behind his quest and that he should count on them.
The council’s Secretary General Brigadier (Rtd) Ben Nganda and treasurer Davies Maeke said the country ought to know that Kalonzo’s candidature is “not a joke”.
Kilonzo, who was flanked by 20 elders, told the Wiper leader to re-engineer and rebrand the party to prepare and position it for the 2027 polls.
The elders mandated Kalonzo to make peace with his real and imagined political opponents such as former senators Johnson Muthama (Machakos), David Musila (Kitui), former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu among other leaders.
