President William Ruto has nominated former Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose to the position of Solicitor General pending parliamentary approval.
In a letter seen by People Daily addressed to the National Assembly, the President is seeking Parliament’s endorsement of his nominee to replace Ken Ogeto. Mose unsuccessfully defended the Kitutu Masaba parliamentary seat on UDA ticket, which was won by newcomer Clive Ombane of ODM. Ogeto served as the country’s Solicitor General for the four years.
Priority basis
“In recognition of the unique role of the State Law Office in our Governance structure, and mindful of the mandate of the Solicitor General as the Deputy to the Principal Legal Adviser to the Government, the National Assembly is most kindly requested to consider the nomination on a priority basis,” the letter by the President reads in part.
His nomination comes at a time when Gusii leaders continue to align themselves behind President Ruto, but equally a growing onslaught from the opposition alleging that the community has been sidelined in the public appointments made recently.
At the same time, Mose’s appointment comes amid intensified lobbying from the region’s leaders in an effort to get their fair share of the national cake under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
