Government releases Ksh.2.43 billion for June Inua Jamii cash transfers

The government has released Ksh.2.426 billion to support payments under the June 2026 cycle of the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said the funds will benefit 1,213,156 older persons and people living with severe disabilities enrolled in the programme.
According to the ministry, payments began on August 3, 2026, with each beneficiary receiving Ksh.2,000 for the June payment cycle.
The disbursement is being implemented through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs as part of the government’s wider social-protection programme.
Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said the Inua Jamii initiative remains a key pillar of the government’s strategy to cushion vulnerable households from poverty and improve their general welfare.
The programme targets older persons aged 70 years and above, as well as people living with severe disabilities who require continued social and financial support.
The latest disbursement is expected to help beneficiaries meet basic needs, including food, healthcare and other essential household expenses.
The ministry said the programme continues to play an important role in protecting vulnerable citizens and promoting their dignity, social inclusion and well-being.
The government has maintained that regular cash transfers are critical in reducing the financial burden faced by elderly citizens and households caring for people with severe disabilities.
